Dealer of Firearms

Licensed to sell firearms commercially. Includes pawn shops and sporting goods stores.

  • Must be 21+ years old
  • No felony convictions
  • No state law violations
  • $200 for 3-year license

Pawnbroker

Pawn shop dealing in firearms. Must maintain additional records.

  • Same as Type 01
  • Must be licensed pawnbroker
  • $200 for 3-year license

Importer

Importing firearms, ammunition, and firearms parts into the U.S.

  • Must be 21+ years old
  • Import license required
  • $150 for 3-year license

Manufacturer

Manufacturing firearms for commercial sale or personal use.

Record Keeping Requirements

Class 3 - Importer

$1,000/year - Importing NFA items

Note

Class 2 SOT allows FFLs to deal in NFA items without paying the $200 transfer tax on each item. Transfer taxes still apply for non-SOT purchasers.
